Sometimes I hate Ithaca College
*angry eyebrows* >:-x
I wish I had internet at the intern house so I could actually update this once in a while...like today would be good...I could go for a good vent session in the lj right about now. alas...I only have 2 min left in my break.
so the first sentance will just have to do.
but I get to go home in 12 days for 3 days. yay.
peace out |

| | The Count of Monte Cristo the musical | ] | so.....since Tony Meola (big wig sound designer) is here, apparently done let down the block or firewall or whatever on the sound wireless network, so we've got wireless access backstage tonight for rehearsal. which is cool.....
unfortunately, everything and anything is going wrong and going crazy and all hell is breaking loose.
first of all I had to check Michael Mott's mic element, and i asked ryan if he wanted me to have michael talk so they could test to see how the signal and all that good stuff is.
tooooo bad I was talking to michael while waiting for ryan to let me know if michael needed to talk or not,....talking about how special ryan is and how he doesn't always really know what's going on.... and when ryan did get back to me, he said the connection was better cuz he could hear me talking about him.
greaaaat.
next Jeremy Jordon crisis....who's the lead of the show....and basically thinks of himself as god....big diva. anyway, his antenna was all sorts of fubared...so I had to fix it in aproximately .5 seconds when he comes off stage jumps on the revolve and goes back onstage. Don was freaking out and practically yelled at Meryl saying being able to hear Jeremy was more important than having some buttons unbuttoned, so I'm waiting on the revolve for Jeremy to come offstage, I straighten out the antenna which appeared to be tucked into his pants, and all was fine. but prior to this Don was going over how I only had time to check the antenna for that, and then if that didn't work I had to change out the antenna or the entire pack during his quick change, which was about 20 seconds long and he probably would have ended up half dressed if that was the case. so fortunately he was fine after i fixed his antenna. but holy shit my heart was throbbing.
next.....the light board isn't exactly top notch anymore, and can't handle being programmed and running show light cues at the same time, so it freezes every once in a while during rehearsal. and it happened again tonight....only let me point out that tonight is PREVIEW. There is a decent sized audience out there, and they had to call "hold please, we're holding for lights" on the god mic...with an audience here. they brought up house lights and backstage lights while they rebooted or whatever....and then to make it more awkward
I got sent out onstage to fix Michael Mott's and Aaron Morris's mics/packs. not to mention I walked on stage left...and both of them were stage right. so i'm walkin across stage..."hey guys, hows it goin, hiii....hello, whats up" ...not loud enough for the audience to really hear me, but oh man it was awkward. So I fix Michael, and went over to Aaron, and since I had to check the antenna on his pack, he had to take off his jacket, drop his suspenders,
and pull up his shirt........which got a good laugh out of the audience. pushed in his antenna...went off stage, was told by 3 people on headset the same thing that should that happen again I should bring him offstage. which makes sense...but not what I thought about when they're telling me to rush out there and get things done.
After that, had to fix at least 5 more people's mics, stuff their antenna's in more or something, which was hard to do in some cases since you can't get under their clothes very easily. -the girls are all in hooped skirts...soooo not such easy access to mic belts around their hips.
just now apparently someone didn't say the last line for a scene that is usually the conductor's cue to go on with the music....so there was this long pause with just a note being held out longer than it should. Britney (stage manager) is on headset saying "c'mon joel, just go on, keep playing, just keep playing". moreso wishful thinking than actually telling him anything since he's not on headset. Eventually he went on, but Jesus Christ....tonight's a shit show.
on the bright side, they've decided we are going to rent another light board, so it doesn't freeze during the show. That's supposed to come in tomorrow morning...but unfortunately apparently the closest Strand board (which is the kind we are currently using for this show) is in "Europe". We're not all sure we believe that, but reguardless, it's far away. ...Meaning that poooooor Eric has to reprogram all the cues into the new board so we're ready for opening on thursday.
ooooh good Lord
shiiiit show
actually I don't think the show isn't too bad, I wish I could actually watch it, I might have to set up next to matt one night so I can watch the show on his moniter, which is better than nothing.
so ya'll should come see it....and we'll all pray to God that the actual shows go 10005000 times better than tonight. ....although it won't take much to be better than tonight.
I'll update again if/when something else blog worthy happens...there's still several scenes left after all. but that's it for now. |

[Apr. 19th, 2007|12:55 pm] |
I really am not enjoying tech for this show at all. Even tho I had a lot of work to do for classes during Urinetown, somehow I was still able to do it and not want to shoot myself. For Monte Cristo I'm able to do more work backstage during the show/techt than I was for Urinetown too, but by the time I'm done I just want to go to bed. Maybe it's just b/c I'm going from tech back to my room to work since I have CAD on my computer, as opposed to going from tech to the design room and working in there, under the bright lights for a while.
oooor maybe the fact that CAD is frustrating me so much...and i have a 6-8 page paper due for my german jew class on tuesday....which is an extension cuz it's supposed to be due friday. the big problem there...i haven't done most of the readings, and i don't really have an arguement on any of the paper topics. so i don't really know how i'm going to write the paper. woo
and now it's time for cad. then crew and tech and more cad.

| | Fall Out Boy's new CD - Infinity on High | ] | over the course of this year...I have dated Ashton Kutcher, Brenden from Panic! At the Disco, Matt T from Relient K...and now Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy.
well....in my dreams I have anyway. they all tend to look a little cuter in my dreams too..except Ashton...he just had a nice haircut, vs. his That 70's Show look.
The thing is, it's not even like I drool over these guys. Yeah, I loooove Panic and Relient K and Fall Out Boy, but I feel like Brenden is more cocky than I could ever handle if I were to date him. I'll give it to Pete that he's quite cute, and Ashton Kutcher isn't bad to look at, but still....I would think that if I were to fantasize about celebrities it would be Jake Gyllenhaal. It would make more sense for one of the guys I go to school with to be in my dream b/c at least I see them on a regular basis, so I would think that they'd be more likely to come up in any sort of my thoughts than random celebrities would.
So anyway, last night I dreamed about Pete from Fall Out Boy...Melissa and I were at one of their concerts, which had quite the small crowd considering it was Fall Out Boy. and there were these weird lil games set up, like kicking a soccer ball in a hole, or hitting a baseball at a target, and if you did them, you got a point for each, and if you had a certain number of points you got to stand that much closer to the stage for the concert. And somewhere in the dream I ended up dating Pete. Only he had different hair and not nearly as many tattoos. and I distinctly remember thinking to myself in the dream how awesome it was that I was actually dating this kid and that it wasn't just one of the dreams I've been having. Needless to say I eventually wake up...or at least that half awake half asleep state where your dream ends, and i believe i looked back onto the dream and was mildly disappointed, and fell back asleep
I had another dream. The entire theater department was in the clark...well..it wasn't exactly like the clark, but vaguely similar and in my dream world..it was the clark. Everyone was sitting and random people would get up and perform little parts from various plays we will be doing and ones from shows we've done in the past. Steve Baldridge was there too....onl he was somehow like jonny depp too...because apparently my dream Ithaca College had done Pirates of the Carribbean as a musical prior to me attending the school. So Steve was singing the parts as captain jack sparrow. They did a bit of a scooby doo show, and then something with 2 dogs...like the actors act like dogs, on all 4's and sing their song. Then somewhere in there Pete walks in, and I'm happy to see him....cuz we are also dating in this dream.
ugh.
Not that it's my big dream in life to date Pete Wentz, but I'm not gonna lie, I wouldn't exactly complain.
Maybe subconciously I want to date someone famous. I know I wouldn't mind actually knowing and being friends with someone relatively famous, but then again, who wouldn't want to know someone famous?
At least this time I don't feel all weird for the rest of the day. Like after I "dated" Brended and Matt T. in my dreams I felt weird about it all day. Almost like I actually was or had dated them. It was kiiinda weird...and annoying. |

| | yay | ] | I have a job for this summer! YAAAAAAAAAY! And it's not Darien Lake! YAAAAAAAAAY!
To be completely honest tho, there is part of me that wouldn't mind going back to darien lake, making some decent money, and being able to live at home and not in a dorm room. and because I know darien lake, I'm more familiar with it...so I think that automatically draws me to it a little bit. cuz being 8 hours away from home, somewhere I've never been can seem kinda freaky. Surprisingly I'm not too worried about it, I'm just disappointed I won't get to see more of my friends this summer. And it kinda stinks that I won't be making much money, but I'll probalby be working most of the time anyway, so there won't be much to spend it on.
So I'm going to Maine. Maine State Musical Theatre, as a Props Intern. I've heard good things about them, and just the fact that professors and people know of the place makes me feel better about it than Millbrook Playhouse in PA. I was kinda excited about Millbrook at first b/c it's furthur than Ithaca...but still only 3 1/2 hours away, but no one's heard of it, or knows anything about it. So the more I thought about it, the more of this gut feeling I got that I shouldn't go there. I talked to Colin about it, b/c i hadn't heard back from other places yet, but I needed to let Millbrook know by thursday. He called Maine State and talked to the production manager, and she called me a few hours later and offered me a job.
Hoo-ray.
Jill might end up there too. She said if she doens't get this job in Cortland she was going to go to Maine. Granted she'd be doing sound and I'd be props, but maybe we could be roommates or whatever, or at least hang out after working. So it'd be nice to already know someone who's gonna be there. But I'm not too worried about meeting new people. I mean after all i didn't know everyone at Batman either, or when I was a Costume Character, and I had a good time with the people at both places.
I was bummed about not being able to go to Mexico with my family the week before school starts up again, but now apparently we're going over thanksgiving anyway. sooooooo yay.
and now....now I'm just wasting time until 3 when I guess us Monte Cristo Sound people are supposed to meet up from now on. blaaaaaaaaaaah |

| | cheerful | ] | baaaack to IC spring break wasn't nearly long enough. and I really should have done some form of grocery shopping before coming back....cuuuuuuuuz the one thing I intended to get while I was home -b/c i was out of it for like a week prior to break- I did not get. what is that you ask? TISSUES!!! hopefully since the weather *should* be getting nicer, I won't find the need for tissues as much, but still...they're always good to have.
speaking of weather, mother nature just dropped a load of snow onto NY State, and I don't appretiate it. Although I'm told it's supposed to be like.....68 degrees by friday. As long as it stays that way...or at least above freezing, I'm cool with it. This is why I hate March. All this back and forth. While I'm home it's more of a tease than anything, cuz you have warmer weather, and then POOF 6" of snow. But here, it's a pain in the ass, cuz you have no idea what the hell to wear outside. Yeah...I could just look the weather up, but I forget. The wind tunnel that we call a "quad" doesn't help anything either.
I want to go back to spring break. I didn't think that being gone between saturday and tuesday would make a difference, but it did. well, that's a lie. Granted, I didn't get to see a whole lot of sara, since she's got school still, so I couldn't do much with her during the week, but she's the only one I would have seen had I been home and not in DC anyway. Mr. Lou was in florida that weekend, and Cassi was still at school. Oh well, I got to see most of the people I wanted to.
Yesterday was Cassi Day. Cuz her spring break is this week, so we went to the Galleria to blow some time. I had hopes of finding this pair of gloves I've been wanting for forever, from New Age Creations, but guess what, that store no longer exists in the Walden Galleria Mall....*grunt*. But Cassi got some clothes, we saw some people she knew from school, we saw Sara and her parents and my brother while they were waiting to get into Jack Astor's after the People to People meeting. Cassi and I wandered around a bit, saw Sara and everyone again on their way out, and also saw Joker Adam from Batman....I must say I miss that kid. He's so entertaining, and did quite wonderful monty python impressions. he needs to come be an actor here, Missa and I can hide him in our room, I know she won't mind, cuz i'm pretty sure she misses him as much as I do. too bad we can't see more of him. Guess I have to spend more time at Jack Astors.
Anyway, Cassi and I backtracked and voyaged to the walmart on Transit in hopes of getting the hair dye I wanted. *since batavia's walmart only has the black in the brand I wanted...LAME* sure enough the trip wasn't a waste and they had it. woot. grabbed some subway for dinner and went to "young louis's" house to watch a movie, quoting Shoes, Cunningham Muffins and Charlie and the Candy Mountain the whole way.
I must say, I love my friends. Cassi can basically quote the entire Charlie and the Candy Mountain (or whateveri t's called...the one with the unicorns) video, including the crazy song at the end. 10 points cassi. haha. What was better was that to our surprise, Lou had actually seen the video. Fantastic! That boy, he makes my life so entertaining. Well a lot of people do, but there's that very top 5 people who just keep me smiling, make me feel good, and it makes me all happy inside. lol
I still wanna see louie in his tights from ballet class.....or at least see him break dance. bum
this morning my family and cassi's family went out for brunch, which was nice.
and now i'm a red-headed step child. haha well at least the red-headed part. = ) |

| | content | ] | SPRING BREAK! WOOT
tooooo bad it already feels like it's over, and I'm rushing to do all the things I had hoped to do. A big part of that is because my mom and I went to D.C. to visit my aunts, leaving at an unGodly hour Saturday morning, and leaving and an even more unGodly hour Tuesday. It was fun, they've got 2 cockerspaniels that are adorable and loved me to death, and 2 cats which are quite entertaining.
We went to see Carnival at the Kennedy Center, which was cool. Good musical, good story. The set wasn't Urinetown extravagant...but it worked really well, especially with the less major things they added. They had a trap door in the floor...which you absolutely couldn't notice until they used it. Even then it would have been more magical if you weren't sitting at one of the more extreme sight-lines on the second balcony. I'm sure if you were on the ground floor you wouldn't have even been able to see the black hole. But I didn't mind so much because I was able to see a few techies in their black undernieth closing it up. I spent the first few minutes of the show trying to figure out their spot booths. they had 3, but they werne't semetrical at all...one extreme left, one halfway between left and center, one between center and right. so I was trying to see if there was another at the far right...but unless it was sealed up reaaaaally well, it wasn't there. therefor leading me to spend another few minutes trying to figure out what the reasoning behind such odd placement of spot booths.
What really caught my attention tho was down in the pit. Right in front of the orchestra you could see a little board, with 3 buttons lit up on it. 2 squares in different places on the board lit up with a red light, and one rectangle towards the bottom that was green. I swear to God it's the same sound fx board we had at Batman. ...and yeah, ok, maybe that shouldn't be so surprising, who knows how many, or how few sound effect boards there are out there. but what this means, is either Batman didn't have as low quality of a board as i would have expected them to have.... OR the Kenedy Center has a not so top of the line sound fx board as i would expect them to have.
Either way I was intrigued and kept looking down to try and see when the conductor pushed Go for an effect to run. anyway, I thought it was a good show...we should do it at IC. it's got a decent sized cast too...not as huge as the operas, but probably twice as many people as we had for Grease.
oh wait....reason why we won't do it at IC: it's a show about a circus....there were some extreme circus tricks used...and "magic" that I actually couldn't figure out how they did it.
there goes that hope.
we also went around to all the various historical buildings and monuments....considering along with NYC I have also never been to D.C. We went to the Lincoln Memorical, the Korean War Memorial, WWII memorial, Vietnam Wall, saw but didn't actually go to the Washington Monument and the Capitol Building. Took a fair amount of pictures of all the random buildings, some famous ones that basically everyone knows just looking at it...and others that are probably pretty important but I don't actually know what they were -they just boggled my mind with things from HCD. Like whether they were Neoclassic, or Roman, or Greek. The style of collumns they had, what year they were built, who designed them. I actually impressed myself with how much I rememberd about the Capitol building, and Balmoral Castle...not that Balmoral castle has any relationship to Washington D.C. but somewhere along the lines it came up in conversation. Spy Museum was cool, you are "strongly encouraged" to pick an identity from the "briefing" room, memorize the name, age, birth place, current residence, job, country you are visiting and the reason for your visit. then later you're quizzed as you're "entering" said country and you have to select the correct answers about all that info...and then you're given more stuff to memorize, like the hotel you're staying at, who you're supposed to meet, what their "job" is, what you are to "ask" them, and what they're going to give you. and then as you're leaving you can do anothe quiz as you are "leaving" the country and it tells you whether the guard believed you or thought you were suspicious.
so that was pretty cool, not to mention all the gadgets and stuff they have on display for you to see. there are videos about the different tools used to pick locks and how to do it, and on how to bug things. Displays on different kinds and locations you can place a bug. All sorts of stuff on how spies effected all the different wars. How they made fake glasses with little capslules at the end of the ear pieces, so if an agent was captured he could inconpicuously chew the end of the classes and poison and kill himself rather than face torture. and Washinton D.C. has more spies than anywhere else in the country, surprise surprise....I believe country cuz i don't think it was more than anywhere in the world.
I strongly recomend going if you're ever in the area. their gift shop was awesome too. They had Thumb Drives that actually worked and held quite a bit of memory, but also had a little pen and screwdriver heads and i dunno what else on them. or little led flashlights with little gadgets. Ity bity cameras. It was awesome.
and I must say the street vendors have AWESOME hotdogs...much better than the ones at the spy museum...and I'm pretty sure they were cheaper too. Another note...got a FBI hoodie from a street vendor...it's nice and comfy and very nice...$18. THANK YOU. is it entirely necessary for hoodies anywhere else to be $40????? I think not.
Having lunch with Joey Joey tomorrow, which will be nice cuz I haven't seen the kid in forever. and Hopefully we'll go out to see Linda after that, get some dirt on what's goin on at Darien Lake. Line dancing tomorrow night, of course. Just hopin I have someone to go with. Jill doesn't know if she'll be able to go cuz she's working early friday, and 12 hours tomorrow...aaaaand now she's pregnant so she's all the more tired anyway. Sammy probably won't be able to go either b/c she's helping her grandparents pack? or making dinner? or something like that. Lou might not even be going, not that it would make a big difference b/c he runs around all over the place anyway so it's not like I'd be around him much in the first place. I'll have to get ahold of Verna or Steve and Heather see if I can meet up with any of them.
Saturday is CASSI DAY!!!! yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. don't know what we're doin, but I haven't seen her in forever, and God knows when I'll see her next.
aaaand now it's time for bed |

| | Shakaron | ] | I've decided that although the CAD Lab's tables are too low for the chairs...creating quite the uncomfortable CAD-ing experience, sitting at a computer...ANYWHERE for any extent of time -while trying to work on CAD, especially while trying to follow step by step directions from this damn book- will lead to your back hurting, your legs not getting good circulation...and really just cause you to want to throw the book across the room, stomp on it, and then make a bon-fire.
well...at least that's how it goes for me.....and the lack of circulation to the legs prooves to be quite a pain in the ass for me...cuz then my legs are sore the rest of the day...and those lovely little red dots come back for the next 24 hours or so.
good times
speaking of good times....this weekend was pretty great. Sammy Jo and I watched Behind Enemy Lines 2, which was a really good movie. unfortunately the cute boy who was at blockbuster last time, wasn't there this time. *tear*
Saturday, mom, dad and I went to rochester, mom and i wandered the mall, while dad went to lowe's and the big wine/liquor store. I've started to further give into the latest 'fashion' trends...I got a new pair of sunglasses, from zumiez...you know, those oversized looking things that everyone seems to have. well mine are only slightly oversized...and didn't look terrible on me...and they were like...$10...so why not.
went and wandered around Pier 1 for a while, then I drove back to batavia and my parents met up with friends of ours for dinner. Lou shows up at my house 30 minutes later than planned, we pick up puppy, grab some arby's and head over to MSC for the East Coast Dreamers concert. I guess they're breaking up, so we thought we'd go and at least catch Adam's last concert, since we weren't able to catch any of the others (and by "we" I mean me and lou, puppy's been to quite a few). so their concert was really good, we talked to adam for abit, got a pic of us 4 batman kiddies, then puppy, lou, me and andrew (vicky's ex bf) went to sportos, grabbed some food, and back to my house to chill. Steve and Heather finally made it out, and hung out for a while...then lou and them left, and the rest of us watched Bourne Supremecy.
twas a good time and now i'm trying to do CAD....and it's not going as well as I would have hoped....it's 10 min to 12...I have ATS in the morning....so this is me saying....SCREW THIS ...and going to bed. = ) |

everyone and their mom seems to have a snow day. batavia's closed, kelly's hometown doesn't have school, same for jill's in maryland. and melissa's brothers don't have school. many of kelly's friends at various colleges don't have school. | | Big Bad Voodoo Daddy ~ Mr. Snowmiser | ] | Ithaca's under a Heavy Snow Warning of sorts. 3pm this afternoon until 7pm tomorrow. woot not sure on exactly how much snow we're supposed to get...but is the weather station ever really right anyway? my dad told me 2', weather.com says 10-15" tomorrow, i have no idea...i just hope it's a lot....and by some miracle of God gets us a snow day...cuz that'd be fantastic....I've only got one class tomorrow anyway, but still, a snow day? in college? it'd be wonderous.
and anyone know what exactly the point of a "snow evacuation route" is. i tried looking it up online, w/o much success, but the first link was titled "buffalo", which i found ironic, so i clicked it and read the humorous bits of information that were there. Basically this person talks about when they first saw the snow evactuation signs, and how they just led to suburbs of buffalo and stopped....which wouldn't do you much good b/c the subburbs get just as much snow as the city does. and why would you evacuate b/c of snow anyway? it's safer to stay inside. how many times have you heard of whole cities being evacuated because of snow? said person tried calling the mayor's office and they had nothing to say, they asked a spokesperson who asked if he had noticed the snowflakes on the sign, and said "the signs designate our new snow evacuation routes – these are the first streets to be plowed and kept clear.” well isn't that lovely. the author goes on about how he's got nothing against clearing major streets, but we already have that, and they're called "bus routes".
so why call them snow "evacuation" routes? why not snow "emergency" routes or something? cities are stupid. but the lil article i found is quite entertaining, so if you want to check it out and hear the whole story it's http://www.mediastudy.com/articles/AV3-14-02.html |
